Conference Championship: Alabama over South Carolina

In the East this is finally the year that Steve Spurrier has been waiting for. They are back to defend their SEC East crown and look loaded enough to be a title contender. They return a ton of offensive weapons but will have to navigate a tough road schedule to live up to their potential. Georgia could hang around for a while, but are clearly a step behind South Carolina with regards to 2011 expectations. Similar reports for everyone else in the division aside from Vandy; solid teams, but none that have any real chances of making major waves. This division is really South Carolina and everyone else… now let’s see if Stephen Garcia can avoid continuing his descent into Joe Kane territory and lead the team to the Promised Land.

The West has had a stranglehold on the conference title for the past few years and with Alabama and LSU look like they will continue their tradition of excellence. Before Arkansas’ Knile Davis was lost for the season, I would have put them into that category as well, but that will be too big of a loss to overcome. They will still have a good year, but not an elite one. I love what Dan Mullen is doing at Mississippi State, but any more than 9-3 is too much to ask for at this point in that program’s development. Auburn will take a few giant steps back and Ole Miss, well, they are Ole Miss.
